Hitachi isn’t the only car company running a side hustle – did you know that VW also makes Currywurst sausages?
CURRYWURST?
The Volkswagen Currywurst is a type of sausage that is manufactured by Volkswagen, the German car company. The sausage was first created in 1973 to serve as a snack for Volkswagen employees during their breaks. It has since become a popular food item, not only at Volkswagen factories but also in supermarkets and restaurants across Germany.
How it’s made
The Volkswagen Currywurst is made from a special blend of pork and beef, which is seasoned with a unique combination of spices and curry powder. It is then smoked over beechwood and cooked in hot water before being packaged. The exact recipe of the Volkswagen Currywurst is a closely guarded secret, but it is said to have a slightly sweet and smoky flavor with a subtle hint of curry.
Part Number
It even comes with it’s own part number, which will be very handy as I doubt a of lot of the dealerships even know about it.
The VW Currywurst sausages part number is: Part No.199 398 500
Volkswagen reportedly produces over 6 million currywurst sausages each year, making it one of the most popular food items sold by the company. The sausage has become something of a cultural icon in Germany and is often served with fries, bread, or other traditional German sides.
In fact, in 2005 VW sold more Currywurst than Cars.
It doesn’t seem like you can get these outsides of Europe, but I know what I’m doing on the next trip to Germany.
One should be quick though, as it looks like the Currywurst is e on the chopping block to be cancelled.
